PROGRAMS OFFERED

T-BALL
Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors a youth T-Ball league for Harrison County children ages 5 and 6. This is an instructional league in which the children will learn the basics of baseball. No scores or statistics are kept. Registration begins in April, and the league runs from June through late July or early August. Parent volunteer coaches are used to coach the teams. There is a registration fee for participation in this program.

MEN'S SOFTBALL
Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors a Men's Softball League. Team registration begins in April, and the league is normally limited to the first 12 teams to register and pay the $500 registration fee in full. League plays at Summit Park Recreational Complex from June through early September.

YOUTH BASKETBALL
Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors a Youth Basketball league for Harrison County children in kindergarten through fifth grades. This is an instructional league in which the children will learn the basics of basketball. No scores or statistics are kept. Registration begins in September, and the league begins in October with a series of skills clinics. Team practices and play normally runs from late November through late February. Parent volunteer coaches are used to coach the teams. There is a registration fee for participation in this program.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors a High School Basketball league for Harrison County boys who are not playing on their school's basketball team. This league kicks off the week after Christmas with the annual Holiday Tournament, with regular play beginning in mid-January. The season winds up with an exciting double-elimination tournament during the month of March. Team registrations begin the first of December. There is a registration fee for participation in this program.

COACHES TRAINING
All Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission youth sports league coaches are required to attend H.C.P.R.C. coaches training, and are also required to undergo a criminal background check prior to coaching. The H.C.P.R.C. is always looking for good, qualified parent coaches! Why not volunteer when you call to register your child to play in one of our sports leagues?

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors several after school programs at various locations throughout the county. These programs offer homework help, individual tutoring, arts and crafts activities and recreation periods. Check with the H.C.P.R.C. office for specific sites and program times. Program available during the normal school year. There is no charge for participation in this program, but pre-application is required at each site.

HCPRC SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM
Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission sponsors a summer recreation program, which provides opportunities for Harrison County children to use their summer vacation as a time of growth, learning, and most of all for fun in a safe and wholesome environment. Daily activities include team and individual sports, group games, arts, crafts, drama and music. Weekly special events can include carnivals, shows, tournaments, contests, special instruction, etc. County competition and field trips are also included. The program is geared to ages 6 through 13. The program is operated at sites throughout Harrison County. The sites are subject to annual review of participation and community involvement. The number of sites is limited due to budgetary restraints. Areas interested in the program must contact the H.C.P.R.C. office by the April H.C.P.R.C. meeting each year. All areas must meet certain criteria, including a minimum number of participants, an adequate and well-maintained site, and a sponsoring group or club for the program. Municipalities must provide matching funding for leader salaries. Most Summer Recreation program sites qualify for free lunches for the children. Summer recreation programs operate for six to eight weeks during the summer months. Starting dates and hours vary. Call the H.C.P.R.C. office for information on individual sites. There is no charge for this program.

ENERGY EXPRESS
Energy Express is an AmeriCorps summer reading program designed to help children maintain or advance their reading levels during the summer months. The program is open to children in grades 1 - 5, and is held five days a week for six weeks during June and July at two locations in Harrison County. Applications are available in the spring from your child's school. There are a limited number of openings in the program each year. The Harrison County Parks and Recreation Commission is proud to be a community partner of the Energy Express program in Harrison County. There are also opportunities for volunteer work with the Energy Express program. There is no charge for this program, and two family-style meals are served each day.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Clinics, workshops, field trips, holiday activities, concerts, special population programs, sports tournament, etc. are offered from time to time. North Pole Calling (telephone calls to county children from Santa Claus), Summer Playground Contests, Kennywood Park Field Trip, Easter Egg Hunt, and the Alternative to Trick or Treat Party are some of the most popular special events.
